I've known a few former BEP 1810s who used it as a stepping stone to 1811 positions in other agencies, most said it was good experience but involved a fairly limited mission and authority.
The job has always sounded to me like a blend of duties between being a Security Specialist and Criminal Investigator, which may be why they classify it as an 1810.
